The watchmaking celebrates Seiko

The watchmaking celebrates Seiko

In 2024, Seiko celebrates 100 years since the brand’s birth.

In fact, it was in 1924 that the Seiko Manufactory, founded in 1881, introduced the first wristwatch with the "Seiko" logo on the dial, starting what would have been the success story of the Japanese brand. Seiko pays tribute to this anniversary with some commemorative collections, which will be launched between the end of 2023 and 2024, year of great celebrations. Among these, the limited edition Presage Kintaro Hattori, a tribute to the first wristwatch with the Seiko logo, the Marinemaster, reinterpretation of the iconic Seiko diver of 1965, and the mechanical chronograph Speedtimer.

"History in watchmaking has always great value, represents the baggage of the brand and testifies to its ability to face the challenges of the time from the technological and design point of view.

Seiko was born from an idea of different watchmaking, which has continuously put in the foreground an approach typical of Japanese culture, which has always favored precision and reliability combined with crafts. For Seiko the measurement of time is a continuous challenge, the stimulus to create watches with great performance associated with an iconic design. After 100 years, Seiko is among the leading players in modern watchmaking and boasts a large following of enthusiasts, whom we love to call Seiko lovers", comments Filippo Nembrini Director of Seiko Italia.

The Seiko manufactory began when a young entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened his own watch shop in Tokyo at the age of 22. Since its inception, the company has pursued a goal of innovation, inspired by the founder’s philosophy: "Always one step ahead of others" and has been committed to the relentless pursuit of perfection that Hattori has always wanted to achieve.

Seiko, in Japanese, has three meanings: in addition to being a woman’s name, it is synonymous with "precision" and "success". And it is no coincidence that, from 1881 onwards, Seiko’s history is dotted with advances and exceptional results, which have impacted the watch industry globally, making this brand a benchmark in terms of quality and performance.

It is in fact Seiko’s first quartz watch in history, launched in 1969: the Quartz Astron, which triggered a revolution at a global level, making the precision time display accessible to everyone and contributing to the popularity of the wristwatch as the chosen tool to know the time around the world.
